 Saranya Self Employment Scheme

Saranya Scheme is a self-employment scheme started by the Kerala Government. The state government has started this scheme to encourage the segregated women of the state namely widows, divorced, deserted, spinsters, above the age of 30, and unwedded mothers of Scheduled Tribe, Differently abled, and Wife of Bed Ridden patients.

Under this scheme, the state government will provide an interest-free loan of up to Rs 50000, out of which 50% of the loan will be reimbursed as a government subsidy and the rest of Rs 25000 will be paid in 60 equal monthly installments.

If the applicant took a loan of more than Rs 50000 then the applicant has to pay his/her beneficiary contribution of 10% of that amount. The beneficiary will have to pay 3% as interest on the loan amount exceeding Rs 50000.

Those ventures which are rubbing successfully and have repaid at least 50% of the taken loan, then they are eligible to take 80% of the original loan amount to expand the venture.

• Under this scheme, the state government of Kerala will provide a loan at a low-interest rate to the backward and segregated women of Kerala to start their work.
• Under this scheme, the government will provide a loan of Rs 50000 at a 0% interest rate, out of which the government provides a subsidy of 50%.
• Applicants do not have to provide any kind of security while applying for the loan.

• The scheme is for individual ventures, but it is also allowed to start joint ventures with more than one entrepreneur. Everyone in this joint venture will get maximum loans and subsidies.

Implementation Of The Saranya Self Employment Yojana

• First of all, the applicant has to take the application form for the scheme from the employment exchange office.
• Then the applicant has to submit the application form with the detailed project report and income certificate.
• An income certificate should be issued by the village officer.
• After that employment exchange officer will verify the documents.
• After verification, if the filed document is found to be correct, then the application form will be sent to the District Employment Office.
• Then district employment officer will sanction the loan.
• The district committee consists of Chairman and convoy, the district collector is the chairman and the employment officer is the convoy.
• If the loan is sanctioned then the amount will be directly transferred into the applicant’s bank account.

Monitoring The Self-Employment Scheme

• District Employment Officer and the Employment Officers of the Municipal Employment Office will be monitoring the Saranya Self Employment Yojana.
• The Director Of Employment will be the controlling officer of the scheme.
• If the beneficiary fails to pay consecutive 3 installments of the loan then 2 reminders will be sent to them.
• If the beneficiary does not respond to the reminders, then the revenue collection action will be initiated, so that the loan amount will be recovered along with the interest.
• If the beneficiary has used the loan amount for other purposes then the entire amount including subsidy will be recovered from the beneficiary.

Eligibility Criteria

• The age of unemployed widows, divorced, deserted, spinsters beneficiaries should be 30 years.
• Unmarried mothers of Scheduled Tribes who are in the live register of employment exchange have an age range of 18 to 55 years.
• The annual income of the beneficiary should be less than Rs 100000.
• Widow: Those women whose husbands are deceased and do not remarry. They have to obtain the widow certificate from the village officer or president of gram Panchayat or chairman of the municipal corporation or Mayor of the corporation
• Divorced Women: Those women whose husbands left them or gave their partners divorced and do not remarry at the time of application. They have to obtain a divorce certificate from the court or their religious organization.
• Deserted Women: Those women who are uninhabitable by their husbands or their husbands have been missing for the past seven years. They have to obtain the certificate from the tahsildar and in the certificate and the certificate should certify that the women do not get remarried at the time of application.
• Spinster: Unmarried women whose age is 30 years and who are still unmarried. They have to obtain a certificate from the village officer.
• Unmarried Mother: Those women who have a child without getting married and belong to Schedule Caste come under this category. They have to obtain the certificate from the village officer and it certifies the caste and community of the women.
